Black history month

  • Interviews
  • Filmmaking

In 2011 we were asked to organise Black History Month for Derbyshire County Council. We conducted a variety of interviews with community members from Chesterfield Afro-Caribbean Association, DCC Black Workers Party, a Polish footsore business in Ilkeston, the Bosnian Association in Derby city, the Chesterfield Chinese and Filipino Associations. We also organised a celebration event at Derbyshire County Council's County Hall in Matlock. The interviews were available to access on computers on the day and we provided a striking static exhibition of photos of the community members. Each community provided food from their own cultures to share with each other and music at the event also reflected the cultural diversity represented. A unique event celebrating Derbyshire's rich cultural heritage !
